Asthma

Eat a simple, light diet, of foods that don’t promote mucus production, like raw vegetables and fruits, whole grains well toasted (except wheat which should be avoided), unroasted seeds, and unroasted nuts.

Avoid mucus producing foods such as soft breads, potatoes (unless baked), all dairy products, rice, pasta, sugar, junk foods, fried foods, and refined foods.

Consume large amounts of foods which are high in carotenoids, such as dark-green leafy vegetables, and deep-yellow and orange vegetables. Carotenoids are antioxidants that have anti-inflammatory benefits.

Garlic & onion should be consumed regularly for their anti-inflammatory properties.

Consume 1 to 2 Tbsp. ground flaxseed daily, as they are an excellent source of the anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids.

Raw sauerkraut, prepared with onions, garlic, and flaxseed oil, reduces inflammation and provides a helpful and tasty remedy in the treatment of asthma.

Drink a glass of clean water every two waking hours to help keep the system clean. Water is especially helpful after an asthma attack to break up mucus.

Avoid any foods which contain additives or preservatives. This means avoiding processed foods, dried or smoked foods, and salad bars, which are often sprayed with preservatives such as tartrazine (yellow dye number 5), red dye, sulphites (as found in dried fruits), benzoates, and monosodium glutamate (MSG).

Avoid chocolate, fish, eggs, and other common allergenic foods.

Avoid caffeine from all sources.

Never eat frozen or extremely cold foods, which can cause the muscles in your airways to tighten.

Do not over-eat, as over-eating will put pressure on your diaphragm.

Drink the juice of ½ a lemon mixed into a glass of warm water, every 90 minutes for 12 hours, two days in a row. Drink a much water as desired, but do not consume any food during the two days.

Every three months, consider doing a three-day vegetable cleansing juice fast to expel mucus.

A hot shower followed by a cold shower, helps to relieve asthmatic symptoms.

Manage stress, as stress can trigger an asthma attack.

Daily exercise is very important, as this helps to increase your ability to take in more oxygen. During cold weather, either wear a mask or exercise indoors.

Perform deep breathing exercises daily.

Wash all bedding in hot water one to two times weekly to remove dust and dust mites, which can trigger asthma.

Vacuum at least twice weekly, and consider replacing rugs or carpets with on-toxic wooden or laminate flooring.

Avoid all sources of smoke, and use a good air filter in your home, to clean the air.

Practice good posture, both during sitting and standing.
